Janet Nguyen Launches Online Petition to Demand an Apology from Governor Gavin Newsom After He Doubles Down on Comments Blaming Nail Salons for Spread of COVID-19
ORANGE COUNTY, CA - - During Friday's Statewide press conference, Governor Gavin Newsom doubled down on his statement that nail salons were responsible for the spread of COVID-19 in California. This came just hours after Janet Nguyen joined small-business leaders in calling for the Governor to apologize. In response former State Senator Janet Nguyen set up an online petition asking individuals from around the state to demand an apology from the Governor.
"Today I joined Vietnamese-American businesses and business groups in demanding an apology from Governor Gavin Newsom for his reckless and irresponsible comments that will drive our local small businesses into the ground," said former State Senator Janet Nguyen.
Nguyen continued, "His response was to continue to blame nail salons in California as the source for community spread of the COVID-19 virus. Our local entrepreneurs have endured so much with business shutdowns and statewide restrictions while many of them never saw any government assistance. To be treated as second class when all they want is to reopen their shops is just plain wrong. We need to stand up against this dangerous rhetoric. The Governor's statement will harm more small businesses and jobs than will have ever spread COVID-19. But we aren't going to take this lying down. That's why I started the online petition, I want to give a collective voice to those offended by his comments so the Governor understands how many people will suffer from his irresponsible behavior."
